Paddle type flow switches are used to track the liquids flowing in the pipeline. These flow switches can be relied on and are also cheap. They are used to protect pumps and other equipment from low liquid flow. They are as well used to prove the flow of boilers.

How Paddle Type Flow Switch Works

It works so that a paddle that connects to the level is hanged in the liquid. The liquids start to flow immediately, leveling with the paddle; it diverts, therefore activating contacts in the microswitch. Then by using a flexible metallic bellow, the microswitch will be separated from the liquid. The setpoint can as well be adjusted.

The power of liquid flow to set in motion the paddle to recognize how liquids are moving in the pipeline is used. If there is no liquid moving, the spring will increase in size. This will then press the magnet leveling downwards when the fluid starts to flow, pushes, and rises at a certain angle. The paddle will try to push the magnet upward to start up the reed switch directly connected to the circuit. The length of the paddle can also be adjusted using the diameter of the pipe.

How to Install Paddle Type Flow Switch

1.The flow switch unit is made by building the length of the paddle at a certain angle. To know the paddle's length, it's the lowest point when the perimeter of the pipe is angled. It would be best if you left the paddle at a mark of not less than one inch.

2.The pipe has to be similar to the pipe's cutting face and 1- inch NPT mounting screw.

3. The flowing mark has to be side to side with the ground and the pipe on the screw hexagon.

4. Before installing the unit to the pipeline, you should apply the sealing tape to the screw and then make sure it is tight.

The Cautions
  • It would help if you always considered pressure and temperature. Their ranges are not supposed to transcend. The changes at which temperatures are operated will, in turn, affect the point that is set. Always seek help if temperatures of liquids have changed in a certain gravity.
  • Although the flow switch is designed to resist shock and vibrations, they should be very low.
  • It will help if you time to time, clean the paddle. This is because any polluted or contaminated liquid may affect how it works.
  • Always make sure that the electrical and mounting entry is well covered from the moisture.

To get accurate results of the liquid flow rate, you should measure the variations at a vigorous speed. The speed depends on the changes in pressure. This pressure is the one that will force the liquids to pass through the pipe. Because you can not know the pipe's cross-sectional area, the constant speed will tell the flow rate. The balanced flow rate will be important because it will help set flow switches in a fixed close operation.
