A flow switch is a tool used to control a fluid's flow like water, oil, or gas. Flow switches are meant for damage control of the setup by sending a signal to the setup to either start or stop the water flow switch flow. The switch sends the signal to other parts of the system like an alarm or a pump, so appropriate action is started.

Like any other machine, it is crucial to test and ensure that the flow switch readings are accurate and the mechanism used is in good condition. Flow switches are tested to make sure they follow the TB203.3.2. The testing process is usually routinely done after every three months.

The test is only valid when enough water goes through the switch, and as such, you can do it multiple times to achieve a high level of accuracy. The pressure in both sides of the flow switch that is the inlet and outlet, must be equal before the test and remain at equilibrium without water flow.
At the testing, water is passed in the switch downstream, leading to a pressure drop and the flow switch to swing into operation. The water flow switch should be tested when there is little disruption to work, so engineers often test flow switches early in the morning before anyone goes to work.

Testing flow switches helps give them a long life and reduces the number of times a technician is called to handle the drainage issues such as in water sprinklers. It is cost-effective to test a flow switch as it is a safety mechanism, and if it fails, it can lead to huge losses.

It is eco-friendly to test flow switches rather than let disasters happen that cause a massive mess on the landscape. The other thing that makes firms test flow switches is to meet government regulations. It is a city policy to have flow switches examined, and testing standards exist to keep things in check.

Procedure to Test a Switch

  1. Cover the flow switch and turn on the power
  2. Initiate flow through the system
  3. Look at the flow switch in operation and see if it is in good shape.
  4. Repeat the other steps until you are sure it is in good condition

In conclusion;

flow switch is a tool to gauge and regulate flow rate if it goes below or above the set limits. That provision is crucial at most systems, where a reduction in flow can lead to the destruction of a system or property. Testing the water flow switch ensures such accidents never occur.
