Alstroemeria are the best option for flowers to grow in their garden as filter flowers. But how much do you know about these lovely perennial flowers? If you don’t know anything about these flowers, read this post for more about alstroemeria flowers

Originally from Brazil and Peru, Alstroemeria flowers are also known as Peruvian lilies, Parrot lilies, or Lily of the Incas. This flower got its Alstroemeria names from a Swedish botanist called Baron Klaus von Alstroemer. He gathered seeds from this plan in 1753 in Spain. The flowering plant is a genus of 50 species. With a case life of about two weeks, Peruvian lilies don’t have any fragrance. They don’t do well when exposed to too much heat since they will stop producing flowers. Instead, their tuberous roots will grow bigger. Now that you know what Alstroemeria Flower is, let’s now look at some of its varieties.

Adonis

You will notice these exotic flowers from their bright magenta petals and stems that grow up to 18 inches high. The petals are slightly curved downwards at an angle. Plating is in a sheltered spot makes it grow well. You can expose it to full sunlight or partial shade. It looks stunning in a case or container due to its bright-yellow throat.

Aimi

This is one of its tallest varieties, growing up to 30 inches high. This Alstroemeria flower blooms from June to November and has creamy white petals with flushes or pink. Aimi Alstroemerias look wonderful in any container or a vase.

Alstroemeria aurea

There is also another variety known as Alstroemeria aurea. This variety has small petals that sort of look like orchids, and it blooms from early to mid-summer. You will notice this type of Alstroemeria from its golden-yellow or bright-orange petals. The petals have stripes or specks of a darker color. If you want to grow these lovely blooms in your garden, then you need to plant them under full sun in moist soil. It is resistant to deer and disease-free, making it easy to plant and take care of.

Alstroemeria ligtu

What distinguishes this variety from others is its height that grows up to 3 feet tall. The petals of this flower come in scarlet, pink, and orange. The petals also have stripes of gold that contrast with the main color. You can also call it the St. Martin’s Flower if you want, and you can grow it in your garden with other flowers.

Antarctica (Alstroemeria Inticancha)

This perennial variety is one of the shortest Alstroemeria flowers, which grows up to 16 inches tall. You will notice it from its bright white petals and what makes it stunning is its dark burgundy streak. This variety blooms from early-Summer to early-Fall. First-time growers will love these varieties because it is easy to take care of. If you want these flowers to stand out, you can plant them in a case or any container you like. They do well in winter if you mulch them in soil when planted outside.
