Are you uncomfortable with your protruding forehead that seems to the center of attention in any conversation? Know how you can get rid of it with forehead reduction surgery.
Any feature on your face that seems too big or too small attracts the attention of people around you for all the reasons. This makes a person with such a feature uncomfortable when having a conversation because people often concentrate on such features. Not because they want to, but it is natural for many of us to stare at what seems abnormal. This is what makes any person with an excessively large forehead feel shy in a crowd.
A large forehead is brought about by different factors. These factors include hair loss, generic factors, scars from surgery, an endoscopic brow lift, or a coronal brow lift. An extremely large forehead limits a person’s hairstyle efforts in trying to camouflage the large forehead. Fortunately, a procedure is available to get rid of such a condition. This forehead reduction surgery is known as hairline lowering.
What Is Hairline Lowering Procedure?
Since it is impossible medically to reduce a protruding forehead, the only way to reduce the effects of the protraction is to move down the location where your hair grows. This procedure is also called scalp advancement. A surgeon may perform this procedure during facial feminization surgery. Depending on various variables, the patient may have his or her frontal hairline advanced up to certain distances. These variables include the patient’s preference, scalp laxity, and preoperative hairline height.
Who is Eligible For Hairline Lowering?
Women are more eligible than men
A woman with a large forehead and high hairline
A man with no history of hair loss or who has a thick hairline
If a patient has a flexible forehead skin
Types Of Forehead Reduction Surgery
Hairline lowering can be done in two ways, through hair grafting or by surgical hairline advancement. As the name implies, a surgical hairline advancement involves a surgical procedure done on the forehead. In this procedure, a part of the skin next to the forehead is removed. The skin should not be more than 2-3 cm thick.
The remaining part is then stitched together once the excess skin is removed. This will result in a lowered hairline. Although a scar is going to form, the grafted hair will hide it. That is if there is going to a hair transplant procedure. Otherwise, a biodegradable scalp that is put beneath the skin will help prevent scarring. It does this by attaching the skin to the muscles.
An alternative procedure for hairline lowering is grafting. This technique works by grafting hair in front of the hairline. Grafting is done to increase hair layers above the natural hairline. This helps to reduce an extremely large forehead. This procedure doesn’t need surgery.
What Should Be Done Before a Forehead Reduction Surgery?
Before the surgery, the patient should avoid taking inflammatory drugs for at least a week. Such drugs will drag the recovery process after the hairline lowering procedure.
Alcohol and salty food should be avoided at all costs because they cause swelling and fluid retention.
The doctor will tell the patients the kind of food needed to prepare for surgery and increase immunity.
Conclusion
Before opting for a forehead reduction surgery, do extensive research first. This will help you find the best clinic and surgeon qualified to perform the hairline lowering procedure. Failure to choose a reputable clinic and doctor may negatively affect the outcome.
