One of the biggest misunderstandings about singing is thinking it is all about hitting the right notes. But I am here to tell you, that is just the start. I don’t just teach notes. I teach when to hit them.
Because the timing of a note is just as important as the pitch. You can sing a beautiful note, but if it is too early or too late, it loses power. It loses connection. And the whole groove falls apart.
Singing is About Precision and Feel
Too many singers think “feel” means going with the flow. But great feel comes from great precision. The best singers know how to land a note right on the beat or intentionally behind it to give that soulful pull.
They do not guess. They place.
Why Timing Makes You Stand Out
When your timing is solid:
• Your vocals fit naturally into the music • You stay locked in with the band or backing track • Your phrasing becomes more expressive • Listeners trust your voice more
It gives you confidence. It gives you control
And control is what separates a good singer from a great one.
Rhythm is Trainable
This is not something you are born with or without. You can build it. Every singer can strengthen their timing just like they do with breath support or pitch.
That is exactly why I created these specialized drills that help singers improve their inner clock and land their notes right where they belong, in time, with intention.
Your Voice Deserves Structure
Notes are not random. Every note you sing sits inside a rhythmic pattern. And when you understand that pattern, you start to sing with purpose, not panic. You feel secure. You become more musical.
So I teach my singers to listen to the beat, to count, to subdivide, to breathe in rhythm. Because when you respect timing, you respect the song.
Final Thoughts from Cheryl
You can have the best tone in the world, but if you do not know when to deliver it, the magic falls apart. It is not just about the note. It is about where that note lives
So yes, I teach notes. But more importantly, I teach singers to land them with confidence, clarity, and timing.
Because when the timing is right, your voice becomes undeniable.
