A little reward is nice from time to time. If you're looking to give yourself a cycling treat, check out the road to Bali. It's a there-and-back excursion of about 10K from the Guandu bridge to the Old Street and the big Bali sign. It's definitely worth your time.
This is a pleasure ride. The path is fantastic, perfect for spinning along at a comfortable pace. It wends through a range of scenery, including park-like areas along newly constructed luxury apartment buildings.
Fishing boats ready for the tide.
Riding along the mangroves.
A place to park your yacht.
Bali Old Street getting ready for the day.
I have to say, I wasn't expecting sand sculptures. Great reason to stop and enjoy the scenery.
Amazing artistry on display. Never seen anything like it.
Sadly, recent torrential rain took a heavy toll on the sculptures. My guess is the artists will be back with a fresh commission before too long.
Beyond the Old Street
If you want to take things further, the bike paths (and semi-bike paths) go on for another 10km or so to end at the little fishing port of 下罟子 (Hsia ku tzu ).
With the fishermen and birdwatchers at the end past the Waziwei Nature Reserve. Many paths to explore in this part of the ride.
The infrastructure beat goes on. Extending the West Coast Expressway. Looking back toward Bali from near the Shihsanhang Museum of Archaeology.
End of the bike path at 下罟子.
Next stop, plane spotting at Taoyuan Int'l airport?
